AT HOME THIS AUTUMN
A SEASONAL RESET
Autumn invites a quieter, more considered way of living and styling. In this journal entry, Sara shares her approach to creating spaces that feel grounded, layered, and deeply comforting as the seasons shift. It’s a gentle reset for the home, rooted in texture, tone, and thoughtful simplicity.
As the first cool mornings start to roll in, I always feel this natural shift. Not just in the weather, but in how I want my home to feel. Autumn, to me, is an invitation to slow things down and be more intentional with the way we live and style our spaces.
I’ve always believed that autumn styling is about atmosphere. It’s less about decorating for the sake of it, and more about creating a home that feels grounded, layered and beautifully lived-in.
This is the season where I lean into texture and tone. I’m reaching for tactile throws, richly toned cushions, and those moodier ceramics that add depth without trying too hard. Think warm rusts, deep olives, soft browns… colours that mirror what’s happening outside and bring that sense of calm indoors.
But here’s the thing I always say to my clients, before you go out and buy anything, start with what you already have. Some of the best autumn styling pieces are probably sitting in your cupboards. I’m constantly rediscovering burnished brass, vintage vases, and textured wool pieces that instantly elevate a space when styled with intention. It’s not about more, it’s about better.
Lighting is another big one for me this time of year. As the days get shorter, I swap out anything too bright or harsh and focus on warm, ambient lighting. Lamps, soft bulbs, layered light sources, it completely changes the mood of a room and makes everything feel more inviting.
And then there are the textiles. This is where you really feel the shift. I start to move away from lightweight linens and bring in heavier, more comforting fabrics. Think wool, boucle, thicker cottons. It’s a simple change, but it adds that instant sense of warmth and comfort.
For me, Autumn is about refining rather than adding. It’s creating a home that feels calm, considered, and aligned with the season. Effortless, elevated, and a little bit indulgent in the best way.
Because when your home feels right, everything else flows.
