A minute with Urban Road

April 20, 2018

When it comes to styling properties, artwork is one of our favourite ways of injecting life, soul and emotion into any home, therefore, there is no denying that Perth Style Co. and Australian owned and operated art supplier, Urban Road, are a match made in heaven!

Founded in 2010, Urban Road are known for their high-quality prints made accessible to everyday art-loving Australians and we simply can't get enough!

The PSC team were lucky enough to catch up with the lovely ladies of Urban Road to celebrate the launch of their new A/W18 collection, Continuum, and discuss all things style and inspiration.

Q. How do you describe Urban Road’s style?

A. Constantly evolving! Our customers needs and style preferences are so diverse, so we work hard to create and source artworks that will meet their design needs now, but will also stand the test of time.

Q. What can expect to see from the AW18 collection?

A. A little bit of everything, really! Its roots are found in retro-throwbacks and minimalism, but as it progresses you’ll see hints of abstract expressionism, beautifully detailed oil-paintings, colour photographic closeups of feathers and florals, and an edgy mini-collection of black and white photography. It’s pretty amazing, if we do say so ourselves!

Q. What colours/themes do you think will be trending for the new season?

A. Soft, muted colours are really going to be celebrated this season. I feel like geometric and minimal artworks are also really making a statement - layered shapes, textures, lines and forms.

Q. What is your favourite artwork in the new collection? Why?

A. Linda Llama is by far the Urban Road team favourite! We love the playfulness of it, but also just its composition and history. It has a story to tell, and is such a gorgeous statement piece.

Q. Has this new collection evolved compared to your last collections?

A. Yes, definitely. Each collection we really try to come back to the drawing board - drawing inspiration from current and emerging trends, throwbacks to artistic influences that have helped to shape modern styles, and trying to find creative ways of implementing colours and moods that we feel like our collection on the whole is lacking. Continuum is a little bit more of a throwback than anything we’ve released in the past - we really found inspiration in retro minimalism, and that was Suzie’s (our Founder) guiding light, so to speak. The rest of the collection just naturally evolved from there.

Q. Where do you look to find your ideas and inspiration?

A. Everywhere, really! Suzie is a bit of a genius in the way that she can find inspiration in the most unlikely places. Nature, architecture, movement and texture were big influences in our latest collection.

Q. Any hints on what’s to come from Urban Road in the near future?

A. Ooooh, good question! We’re working hard at the moment on Continuum part 2 which should be releasing in the next month or so. We can’t say much, but let’s just say we’ll be diving into some new options for adorning your walls with. We are so excited about it!

Keep your eyes peeled to see more of how the PSC team style using Urban Road's new Continuum collection in homes across Perth!
