A moment with Rare Constructions

October 16, 2017

Last month we were lucky enough to collaborate with Rare Constructions on this amazing custom build in the heart of Sorrento. Built for contemporary family living, this brand new build offers the best of the best; a truly spectacular home of unmitigated quality.

We took five minutes to sit down with Managing Director, Matt Graves, to discuss the luxurious build that left the team at PSCO floored!

What inspired the design for this particular property?

The build was based around constructing a home which included a lot of polished concrete surfaces - floors, walls and ceilings - in many different versions of concrete. We added as many challenging features as possible to this property and this includes the double story polished concrete stone feature wall fronting the home, which is a true testament to the craftsmanship throughout. The wall bends its way past the glass pivot front door inside where it then serves as a backdrop to a stunning floating black American walnut staircase - by far my favourite feature of the property!

Where does your team usually get their inspiration from?

Most of our homes are built around the dreams of our display designer, Cassandra Graves, and our valued clients.

Is there a common element between this property and your past projects?

Not particularly - every home we build is a custom build, we bring to life all ideas our clients have. This one was our vision, a display home for Rare Constructions to showcase just what we can do.

How long have you been working on this project?

From outlining the concept, to making our selections and the build, this project has taken two years.

Did you have a particular buyer in mind when you designed and built this property?

This property wasn't designed to sell. It was designed for display purposes - to show the public that Rare Constructions can build anything your imagination can dream. Cost and difficulty of construction were ignored to obtain the end result.

What are some of the property's stand out features?

In my eyes, the stand out features include;

- The extensive use of polished and formed concrete surfaces throughout

- Fully concealed and floating walnut staircase

- 78 course alfresco ceilings

- Programmable heated floors, rectified porcelain stone and marble tiling to all wet areas

- Innovative technology system including smart wiring for video intercom, CCTV, Foxtel distribution and Sonos multiroom audio - all controllable by smartphone or tablet.
